Drop Down Lists

I'm creating a list of pre-definded codes for a drop down list e.g. 1, 2, 3

However I'd like to indicate to the user with the aid of a pop up or note saying what 1, 2 or 3 actually means to ensure they enter the right value.

Instead of simply entering 1, 2 or 3 I could put a word description in but I'd further like to analyse the data and create graphs which necessitates using numbers only.

Is this possible or does any have a better suggestion

Are the users adding the information on the sheet or in a form?

We can use Conditional Logic in a form, and in the sheet, we can add so-called helper columns to show the message (or we can use specific cells).

Make sense?

Would any of those options work/help?
