Report Widget using Current User Filter returning "Widget Results are empty for you"

I have created an employee leave dashboard (employees have been shared to this with "Viewer" rights. One of the report widgets is a Leave Balance report. Which is also shared to the users with "Viewer" rights. The Leave Balance report ha a filter in place to only show the Current User.

It all works as expected when I am using it (Admin/Editor) I only see my leave balance, but when having a employee test (with Viewer) access to the dashboard and the report, the widget report displays the following "Widget results are empty for you". But the user does have leave balances.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Bassam, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it means I cannot provide the solution I wanted to as the person with viewer access cannot take advantage of the "Current User" option when viewing the report. So on the employee dashboard I cant use this method to show their leave balance. Cannot think of another way around this. The majority of my users are viewers only of the dashboard, and do not want to give them view access to the underlying sheet, as that contains all employees info, to which they should not have access. Also the bulk of my users are not licenced. If you can think of another way to surface this info on a dashboard I would be most appreciative.

    many thanks, Pete

    Hi @Peter Goodwin

I hope you're well and safe!

To add to Bassam's excellent advice/answer.

What license do you have in Smartsheet? If you have Enterprise or higher, you could use a WorkApp instead because they wouldn't need to be shared to the underlying sheet.

    Another option.

I recently developed a (what I call) Dynamic View Light. It's quite advanced, but in short, it's using cross-sheet formulas and INDEX/MATCH and a specific structure and method, so it's only possible to show data that should be available.

Would any of those options work/help?

    I hope that helps!

Be safe and have a fantastic week!
