Can one cell link to another cell within the same sheet?

I want number values to be associated with the yeses in this column.

Users will fill out an audit form, click yes or no. The owner then wants to be able to calculate the percentage of yeses of the total audits. The problem is SS will only take a numeric value for the formula to work. Is there a way to associate the word yes with the number 1. The attached is how yeses and noes populate in the form. I hope I explained this right as it is complex.

Try something like this.

=COUNTIF([Hand Washing Complete]:[Hand Washing Complete]; "Yes")

Depending on your country/region, you'll need to exchange the comma to a period and the semi-colon to a comma.
