Formula reference another Smartsheet

I am trying to create a smartsheet referencing an existing smartsheet. Here is the formula that I am wanting to do:

This is for the name column of Smartsheet B

=If (Smartsheet A) start date is greater than 3/1/2021, then name on Smartsheet A

If have tried this, but get the message #INVALID OPERATION

=IF({On-Boarding Employees Range 1} > DATE(2021, 3, 1), {On-Boarding Employees Range 2})

Are you able to provide a screenshot with some sample data that shows what you are working with on both of the sheets?

Will that date be present on other names on the source sheet?

Yes. I want to reference the whole column because the people using the referencing smartsheet are inserting a row at the beginning.

Ok. SO do you want to collect all of the names for that particular date range? Sorry. I am having a little trouble understanding exactly what you are trying to accomplish. Are you able to provide another set of screenshots that shows more date on the source sheet and then manually enter what you want the output to be on the destination sheet for a few different samples?

Sorry about that.

I am able to do this formula for single cells, but I want to be able to do this for a whole column.

if the start date (whole column) is greater than 3/1/2021, then the employee name (single cell).

I hope this makes sense. The people on the referencing smartsheet inserts a row and keeps the most current date at the top.
