Formula column with manual entry

Hi all,

Can I create a formula for a symbol column which would automatically change the priority to a "Low" symbol if another checkbox column has been checked? I would like to retain the ability to manually edit the priority column in all other cases.

Hi Shannon,

I would think that you could certainly achieve that with some nested IF statements, possibly combining an the IF(AND formulas. In fact I have been doing similar stuff this evening, albeit basing the criteria on date fields and completion percentages.

If you can tell me what the main criteria of the symbol column is, then I am sure we can come up with a suitable formula for you.

Unfortunately, it's not possible now to have a formula and also be able to change the value manually, but it's an excellent idea!

Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.

Here's a possible workaround or workarounds

• You can, of course, replace the formula to change the value manually
• Add so-called helper columns to combine automatic and manual values
• Change the value by using a workflow instead

Would any of those options work/help?

I have the same question as Shannon. As far as I know, this still isn't possible in Smartsheet. @Andrée Starå - Do you have any guidance about how to follow your suggestion and use helper columns to combine automatic and manual values? Thanks!
