Parent Children IF CONTAINS query

Hello! I've tried multiple versions of formulas that work for this at the parent level only, but I'm looking for a column formula that will not change the value of the children.

I have a timesheet that has the period end date as the parent and the days within that period as the children. The last child includes a timecard due date plus approvals from the supervisor and HR. I'd like a formula that returns:

1. If a child supervisor approval status is "submitted", "declined", or "in process", the parent row is "in process"
2. If a child supervisor approval status is "approved", the parent row is "approved"
3. If the children are all blank, the parent row is blank

I need the same type of column formula for the HR approval:

1. If a child HR approval status is "returned for corrections", the parent row is "returned for corrections"
2. If a child HR approval status is "approved", the parent row is "approved"
3. If the children are all blank, the parent row is blank

Unfortunately, it's not possible now to make it a column formula because you can't have a formula and change the value as well, but it's an excellent idea!

Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.

Here's a possible workaround or workarounds

• Add it manually to all parents or add a so-called helper column.
