Formula inquiry: Tally the count of empty cells in a column

Is there a formula that simply tallies the count of empty cells in a column? I use the COUNTIF all the time to tally the count of cells with certain information and that's easy, however the same function doesn't seem to work in capturing the count of empty cells. I have scoured Google and Smartsheet the last few days and tried COUNTIF, IFBLANK, NOT formulas, and can't seem to find one that will work. It seems like something that should be quite simple. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

=COUNTIF([Column Name]:[Column Name], ="")

No, you don't need to add "" to the cells. The "" is basically the same as ISBLANK.

Hi Andree'. Thank you for your quick reply! I can try that and see if it works. One question though...do all my blank cells have to have "" in them in order for the formula to recognize they are blank?

No they do not. The quotation marks are part of the syntax of the formula and everything in between (in this case nothing) is what's search for by the formula.
