Automatically update a date cell to today's date based on a different cell value

Automatically update a date cell to today's date based on a different cell value that does not depend on updates of a cell or row:

In other words, I just want this date cell to auto update to today's date automatically, based on specific values in a different column.

Automation does not do this unless you actually change something, how can I achieve this without having to do that?

Have you tried an IF function? In the date column where you want today's date, did you try

=IF(Criteria@row="Your Value",TODAY())

This might help! You could add a condition to the Workflow if needed.
