Multiplication of columns

Options

Hi,

I would like to multiply two columns together, however I keep getting an invalid response. Is this because the data in each of those columns is obtained through a formula? I need to multiply the value obtained through each formula to get my final answer but am not sure how to do that.

For the initial formula, I was using:

=[Column 1]@row * [Column 2]@row

For additional information, the value obtained in Column 1 and column 2 is through an IF(OR... formula and the other one is a SUM formula. Both have numeric (with decimals) answers only.

Thank you!

    Hi @Amanda Alv

I hope you're well and safe!

The value(s) are probably not interpreted as numbers.

Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s)/copies of the sheet(s) or some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@workbold.com)

    I hope that helps!

Be safe and have a fantastic day!

    Hi @Amanda Alv

Hope you are fine, as @Andrée Starå mentioned it's data format problem you can solve that by using Value function, please try the following formula:

    =Value([Column 1]@row) * Value([Column 2]@row)

Thank you! I attached two screenshots, showing the formulas used to obtain the numbers I'd like to multiply. It's overall a simple sheet- contractors are submitting hours worked through a form, and then based on certain info submitted, we determine the hourly pay and for the other column, we simply add all the hours together. I'm not sure how to get the Value vs the formula recognized to then multiply the outputs together.

    Thank you again!!

    @Amanda Alv

    Happy to help!

Try changing the formula to something like this.

    =IF(OR(Position@row = "Trainer"),40,45)

    Did that work?
