Using Date Function & Referencing Other Cells

Hello,

I'm trying to create a date using the Date function so I can use it in a formula. Is there a way to use the Date function using cell references instead of numerals? The syntax I'm trying (and failing) to use is something like =Date(Year@row, Month@row, 1).

=Date(Year([column name]@row), Month([column name]@row), 1).

No, that didn't, but this finally did:

DATE(VALUE([column name]@row), VALUE([column name]@row), 1)
