Alerts - AND not OR?

Is there a way to set up an alert with multiple changes that it's an AND and not an OR?

I have a workflow that really needs to be - A new row is added, Status is Approved AND the path type is XYZ. Currently, the person being notified when anything is being approved and she only needs to be notified if the path type is a specific category. Thoughts? I feel like I might be overlooking something.

I would suggest making the path type a condition as opposed to a trigger.
