Update field is missing in smartsheet update requestf
Hi,
Some of the users report that the automatic update request emails don't allow them to provide the actual update. The field for providing an update is missing (please see the attached screenshots).
Could you please let me know of the reason why this field is absent for some users? And what can I do to prevent this from happening?
Thanks!
Best,
Kate

Hi Kate,
It looks like you have got an update request automation set up. But the issue seems to be that it doesnt allow the receiver to update the field relevant to you.
You can edit your automation, to allow the receiver to update any column(s) you want. To do this:
click Automation
manage workflows
select the correct Update Request workflow to edit
click on the update request box
At the bottom click 'specific fields' and select the fields you want the receiver to update.
Save.
Cheers,
AJ

Hi @BullandKhmer, this is exactly what I already have. And it works for about 50 people while it doesn't work for 3 people. That's why I'm asking what else might be causing this issue (all use Google Chrome as browser, cache and cookies clearing doesn't help).

Hi @katep
Is there a difference between these users in Sheet Sharing permissions?
For example, are the first 47 Admins on the sheet, but 3 only set as Editors? If so, locked fields won't be editable through the Update Request for those 3 Editors (see: How locked rows and columns appear in request)
Cheers,
Genevieve

Hi @Genevieve P. ,
I've checked their permissions and ensured that they all are editors. Yet, these people still cannot provide an update via email forms.
Is there any other reason for that one?

Hi @katep
Would you be able to post a screen capture of how that column is set up in your sheet? (Double-click on the column name to show the column properties).
Can you clarify how it's being used? E.g. is it locked, or is there a formula in any of the cells?

Hi @Genevieve P. , there are no specific settings as this is a 'Latest Comment' column that has pre-defined settings in the smartsheet. Anyway, the screenshot is below.
How it's used: It's used to request updates from the line owners through automation (screenshot below)
Best,
Kate

Hi @katep
Aha! Thank you for these images - this is what's causing your locked field issue. The "Latest Comment" column pulls data automatically from the conversation of that row. That means that it should not be filled in manually.
Here's information on that column type: Add a latest comment column
Instead, what you'll want to do in your update request under "Specific fields" is select A Comment.
This allows users to add a comment to the row, which will in turn automatically be brought into that Latest Comment column. Does that make sense?
Cheers,
Genevieve
