formula help linking to a row on a different sheet is the text from one cell is found.
Hi,
I am somewhat new to SS and I am trying to link 2 sheets. one column on sheet A is auto generated when the incident is logged. the autogenerated text is a reference number for the incident (ie: INC.052) I am trying to link to the description of that incident in a different sheet. so far, the only way I can think of it is to create a separate column, and have a formula that says if sheet 2 column A has the text of sheet 1 column A, generate the link to that Sheet 2 row in sheet 1 column B. I am sure that is confusing, but if there is anyone who can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

You would need an INDEX/MATCH.
=INDEX({Sheet 1 Column B}, MATCH([Incident ID]@row, {Sheet 1 Column A}, 0))

I see you marked Paul's response as not resolving your question. Would you mind letting us know what didn't work with that formula? Are you receiving an error or incorrect result?
You can learn more about the INDEX(MATCH combination in this Help Article:
If this still hasn't helped, it would be useful to see screen captures of your sheets but please block out sensitive data.
Cheers,
Genevieve
