Missing automations, formulas and column setup when importing data from excel

I need your help on a doubt I do have using the templates in Smartsheet.

I have several projects that are using the same template and I saved that template with some formulas and automations (Example: record a date when someone changes a date...). Then if I want to import data from excel into that template, the automations, formulas and columns configurations disappear! Is it possible to keep the template configuration when importing data from excel?

Thanks for your guidance

    Hi @Luz Guerrero

I hope you're well and safe!

    Not sure I follow!

You can't import an excel to a template because it will always create a new sheet, but you could move the rows from the new sheet to the template after you launch the new template sheet.

    Make sense?

    Would that work/help?

    I hope that helps!

Have a fantastic week & Happy New Year!

  • @Andrée Starå yes the problem is that Smartsheet creates a new sheet when doing the import from excel and I need to have the imported data into the template (Which is the one that has all the customization: automations, formulas, columns, ...).

On the other hand we create different folders for each template that will be used from different teams... so I was wondering if there is a possibility to have the template set on each folder and then each project lead upload their data using the template.

Also when you say that I can "move the rows from the new sheet to the template after you launch the new template sheet" is doing a simple copy paste or which is the best way?

Thanks a lot for your guidance and solving my doubts
