Circular Dependency error

01/22/19 Edited 12/09/19

Hello,

I am getting a "Circular dependency" error when assigning a dependency, but I cannot find any circular dependencies, in fact I've just started adding the dependencies. Below is the part of the sheet where I'm having difficulty. When I try to add "199" in the depency column of any of the rows 201-204, I get the circular dependency error.

Row       Task Name

197         -Assembly

198            -Preliminary Design

199               Solid Model (Part(s) & Assembly)

200              -Engineering Analysis

201                  FMEA

202                  Flows

203                  Performance

204                  Structural

    Hi David,

Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s) or some screenshots? That would make it easier to help. (share too, [email protected])

    Have a fantastic week!

    Hi David,

I had that issue rise up yesterday afternoon for about an hour. I ended up signing out and signing back in. Then deleting the dependency and retyping it in and it stuck. Smarthsheet must be dinkering with the system.

What is your dependencies for row 199? Finding a circular dependency (if there really is one) can be a bit of a pain, especially when you start factoring parent and child rows.

  • I found the problem. Apparently, I can't follow a row across to the row number. Even after checking for that error.

It's a good idea to keep a straight edge at your desk to help with that process.

I usually just wing it. No ruler? I'm sure there's a piece of computer paper nearby. Notebook. Notepad.

I once had a row of sticky notes on my screen. HAHAHAHAHA laughcool

Glad you got it sorted. yes
