Please add a setting where you can enable/disable the Workspace Panel automatically opening on the left panel when you open a new asset. Having it open by default and squeezing the viewable space on the sheet has been reported as a major efficiency detractor by no less than a dozen employees already.
Get rid of the workspace panel. It is opening again. Why?
I'm contributing to this thread as well because we are having the same issue with the workspace panel opening up. Please have it not default to open. thx.

This started happening to me last week as well. It is highly disruptive to my workflows.
The card views are also reverting back to list view on all my task lists a well, which is also adding time to my day- so frustrating!!

This was reported to the Support team and we now have confirmation that this is resolved - you should no longer see the Workspace Panel opening on each load. 🙂

100% Agree! Workspace is unusable and does not navigate to the folder of which the object lives in. We have 2,000+ Folders in one shared Workspace. This workspace is CONSUMING ram and crashing Smartsheet, yesterday it was unusable! Please pull this feature and redesign the whole experience!
Seems the SMARTSHEET team are running a huge risk of losing customers by not allowing the option to either use or not use Workspaces.
I'm late to the party and have been out of the Smartsheet loop since October of '24, but I have just discovered this "feature" and I am in complete agreement with everyone on here. I find the Workspace Panel to be of minimal use, very confusing to work with, and a tremendous waste of time when the system repeatedly forces you back to it.
This should default to off or, at the very least, be a personal setting that individual users could disable.
