What I'm trying to do: read task dependencies from a sheet programmatically (to render a dependency graph / better Gantt) using the AI connector tools — i.e. the tools an assistant calls, like get_sheet_summary, find_in_sheet, and get_columns — not the raw REST API.
Two blockers I've run into (on a normal sheet with a Predecessors column and dependencies set):
- get_sheet_summary doesn't return the Predecessors column at all. I request it by name; get_columns confirms it exists with type: PREDECESSOR, but no row in the response contains a cell for it. A DURATION column requested in the same call comes back fine — so it looks specific to the PREDECESSOR type.
- No native row order / no row number, so predecessors can't be resolved. find_in_sheet on the Predecessors column does return each cell's value (e.g. "4, 5, 9, 18") with a rowId. But those numbers reference the sheet's native row order (the gray 1, 2, 3 on the left), while get_sheet_summary returns rows in a sorted order and exposes only rowId — never the native row number. So there's no reliable way to map "predecessor 18" back to the row it points at.
What I've confirmed: Support confirmed there's (a) no documented way to get predecessor values through these tools, (b) no native row-number field or native-order option, and (c) no include=objectValue equivalent. The REST API (GET /sheets/{id}?include=objectValue) handles all of this — it's only the connector tools that can't.
Current workaround: export the sheet to Excel and process the file offline, which works but defeats the purpose of the live connector.
Feature request — parity with the REST API on dependencies. Any one of these would unblock it:
- Return PREDECESSOR-column values in get_sheet_summary, or
- Expose each row's native row number (or an option to return rows in native order), or
- Add an include=objectValue option so predecessors come back structured by rowId (this one sidesteps ordering entirely, since rowId is already returned).
Questions for the community:
- Has anyone found a way to read dependencies through the connector tools that I've missed?
- Is any of the above on the roadmap?
