Automations running unexpectedly with no evidence of trigger?

I'm curious if anyone else has encountered an issue with automations running unexpectedly.

I have a sheet with a couple thousand rows that tracks project progress, as well as the status of document reviews and approvals.

Recently, automations ran for nearly all project review rows and sent update requests to hundreds of people unexpectedly. I've reviewed the sheet's Activity Log, examined the rows that triggered the update requests, and checked the cell history for the fields that should have triggered the automation. However, I can find no evidence that those cells changed in a way that would have triggered the workflow.

Has anyone experienced something similar or found a root cause?

@brandon1, I had the same experience across multiple sheets. I have approval workflows that were completed months ago and this morning an automation was triggered across multiple rows that reset the status to "Pending Initial Review" causing mass confusion across my org. So you're not alone in this.

I have yet to find a root cause or commonality across the rows that were affected, but it does seem to be a widespread issue which isn't great, but makes me feel less insane about not being able to find the flaw in my automations… fingers-crossed we get a fix in place soon.
