It would be very helpful to have a toggle feature that allows administrators to enable or disable Dashboard Viewers’ ability to access attachments or associated links displayed within a dashboard.
I understand that the current restriction is intentional based on Smartsheet’s permission structure. However, there are situations where allowing Dashboard Viewers to access specific attachments without granting them access to the underlying sheets or reports would be extremely useful.
For example, our internal development team uses project sheets to manage project schedules and timelines, while our client stakeholders do not have access to those sheets. The development team also stores project charters as attachments to the corresponding project sheets. Our client stakeholders have access to a dashboard that displays selected information from these projects, but they are unable to access the project charter attachments because they do not have permission to the underlying sheets.
It would be great to have an administrator-controlled on/off setting that would allow Dashboard Viewers to access and download attachments, or even follow links, that are displayed on the dashboard without granting them access to the underlying sheets or reports.
This would provide great flexibility in designing stakeholder-facing dashboards while maintaining the existing sheet and report permissions.
