New dashboard update

Hello, there was an update to all dashboards that went live just now. There are some issues I'd like to discuss.

Probably the biggest annoyance is the banner/toolbar at the top takes up so much more space on the screen now. And the edit + save button are on opposite sides of the screen which is quite annoying to use.

Also rich text widget center align, centers properly in edit mode. But in non-edit mode, the centering goes off.

Also the colour palette sometimes gets cut off.

You can also see some widgets spacings get cut off now.

For minor stuff, the rich text and metrics widgets, there is padding and line spacing issues.
Hopefully some of this can get addressed. I just want to post in case other people felt the same. I was building a new dashboard and a lot of it ended up looking a bit weird today.

Looks like this new dashboard style went live again. I haven't seen any announcements or communication if this is permanent or if somethings being tested temporarily? It would be helpful to have a date of release if this will be withdrawn again. It causes issues and need to fix everything each time this goes live.

Not really a bug but metrics have different line spacing which has less readability. New is top, Old (better) is bottom.

Also center align rich text is broken still + all the other things from first post.

Thank you for putting this post together! I just logged into Smartsheet and had the same experience I think you had (looking at the new UI and wondering if this is a permanent change or if it will quickly be reverted back or fixed). Hopefully, we'll get some more insight from Smartsheet's shortly. Attached are some images of the odd spacing I'm experiencing with the links widget (Old being the widget before the update and New being the same widget after the update). The new link icons also blend in with dark backgrounds, making them less visually appealing.

Also, I would say my largest complaint regarding the new update is very similar to yours in that it creates a lot of non-interactive space both via the updated top tool bar as well as the new side bars, which is more noticeable when a dark background is used (see attached for reference).

Agreed with all of this feedback! The spacing of all of our metric and shortcut widgets (and some title widgets) has been changed, making the text either get cut off or the spacing look uneven. We have hundreds of dashboards where this will have to be manually adjusted.

I came in this morning and looked at my dashboards only to realize they are a mess. I hope they undo this change. The shortcuts widgets with all the extra spacing is such a waste of space and will cause me to have to fix so many dashboards. Please revert back to the old layout.

For the top bar… why not try this? Conserve screen space for us by not wasting space for UI.

A lot of my metrics widgets need resized now (thousands), and the cursor no longer changes when there is a widget interaction. I very frequently use title widgets to create a "button" of sorts. Users could hover over them and the cursor would change to show there is an interaction if you click on it. Now there is no easy way to see this other than just clicking on somethign and hoping for the best.

We have hundreds of widgets that were resized in the update and now have to manually be updated to get back the formatting we previously had on them.

100% THIS! Now you have to mouse all the way to the left to click edit then mouse all the way back right to add/change widgets. Either move the new window to the left or move the edit and changes to the right.

I hate that they forced a gray or white background on all of my dashboards! Ugh, I have to manually change everything now, and I'm having to fight with the layout changes to find where to do that! Why??

The new dashboard update is awful not sure why this was changed. The banner at the top is distracting and there is now so much wasted space on both sides of the dashboard. This has caused a huge layout issue with customer metrics we track. They are all squished together not lined up and visually it is hard to look at. Please revert back to the way it was or it is going to take hours of work to recreate items to look nice.

You should be able to go to "Edit Dashboard" then click "Widen Canvas". Keep in mind, this change cannot be undone.

I noticed this change this AM (also didn't see any announcements or update emails) and am hoping it's only testing. We don't have a ton of dashboards but it certainly alters their appearance so I'll have to make adjustments to everything. And why can't you undo 'Widen Canvas'? :-( I create process guides for all that I set up Smartsheet so if this is permanent, I'll need to go back and update all of those + the related screenshots.

t looks like they've rolled back the recent changes for now, which is a relief. The Widen Canvas option, however, has been a permanent feature since it was introduced a year or two ago. I suspect that's because expanding a dashboard is relatively straightforward—the additional space is simply added to the sides of the existing layout. Shrinking the canvas, on the other hand, is much more complicated since the system would have to determine how to reposition or resize the existing widgets without disrupting the current layout.

Still, it would be nice to have the option and have it let you rearrange things manually.

Is there a way to revert to the old dashboard look and feel. The new dashboards do not look good at all. There is no way of knowing if there are additional items in the widgets until you scroll over one to learn there is more to it since the vertical bar doesn't show. why does it not show the bars in timeline view like most gantt charts do?
When i try to send or print the timeline view instead of showing the progression bars like they do on the screen it only send the data entered and not a graph type view to print. Is there a way to do this. I am using a mac platform if that helps.
