I've scoured the interweb trying to figure out how to link from my Smartsheet into a share folder using an html link, and have tried several different methods, but keep getting this error message whenver I try.
Any suggestions?
+1 to making it possible to add links to shared network folders. For all the reasons we are asking for it for the past 2 years.
surely someone in SS has a few minutes to engage with their customers on a much requested feature??
This would also be a useful feature for our business, add my vote please.

Hi Dominik,
#4 is confusing me. I do get the "windows can't open this file" and I don't see an "open with" button. What am i missing?
Thanks,
Liz
Hi,
Thank you for the info. I have attached the message I get when i follow the steps. Did you have this problem?
Could everybody that wants the feature please use the "Submit Product Enhancement Request" under Quicklink to the right of the screen. Obviously they are ignoring the community forum, maybe if we bombard them with request they will at listen.t.
I did as suggested above of attaching the shortcut and then accessing the download url. the download url is only valid for 30 days. I set up a bitly account and have placed a reminder on that record to renew the link in 30 days. its not the best but is a workaround. I will submit an enhancement request.
This feature is very much needed, +1
My organization would also like to request this feature please. Thank you.
Adding another vote to this feature! We're such a link-heavy culture - rarely do we send or attach the actual file. We almost ALWAYS use the link which would make it much easier for folks on my team to submit their work for approval.
+1.
I am shocked to see that Smartsheet does not allow such a simple feature! Even when I upload a shortcut, like one of the commentor posted, the form is able to now retrieve the actual file and upload it in Smartsheet. So, I dont think it is a big technical issue for smartsheet to pass on the command to OS to open the respective shortcut file.
For my organization, Smartsheet is a replacement for Excel and Project. We have our own windows server based network folders. And we are definitely not going to be using the new age Dropbox, Google Drive, Smartsheet file storage, etc. So, if you would like to continue to have customers like my organization, then such requests need to be worked upon...the request was made back in 2015!
Hi everyone,
Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment to have your vote addedA New Way to Submit Your Feature RequestsTo make your Enhancement / Feature Request count, send in the form above because there isn’t a guarantee, it will be registered otherwise.Original Post: https://community.smartsheet.com/announcement/new-way-submit-your-feature-requests

My vote is yes to this feature.

I am a trial user as of today because I need a simple, online project managment tool that is cost efficient, can invite external users and set alerts. I do need to extensivly link to internal files in my projects, and all I see is a two year old thread off corporate arrogance to submit a request of change. This does not cut in todays marketplace. There is many reasons that one should be able to have this functionallity, and it should not be big job.
Get it done is my advice.
