How many Escalations this year
I do not understand why this formula will not work.
I have an Escalation Year column (text/number) that extracts the year out of the Escalation Date (date) column.
I need to know how many escalations so far in 2023. I have tried countless variations of =COUNTIF([Escalation Year]:[Escalation Year], ="2023") and nothing works. I have also tried =COUNTIF([Escalation Year]:[Escalation Year], =YEAR(TODAY())), and COUNT(Escalation Year ="2023", "Yes. "No").
What is wrong with my formulas?
Thanks,
Ashley

The formula to pull out the year is probably treating the year result as text and not a number. Wrap that around with the VALUE function to force SmartSheet to look at the text as a number instead.

I hope you're well and safe!
Try something like this.
=COUNTIF([Escalation Year]:[Escalation Year],IFERROR(YEAR(@cell), 0) = 2023
Did that work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

Hey @Andrée Starå
Thanks, but that one did not work either. It still says INVALID DATA TYPE.

Happy to help!
Have you double-checked your column types?

Hey Andree,
Both columns are text/number. If I change them to DATE, then I get a formula error in those columns, DATE EXPECTED.

I'd be happy to take a quick look.
Can you maybe share the sheet(s)/copies of the sheet(s)? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help.
(share too, andree@workbold.com)

Hey Andree,
I tried to share a copy of the sheet with you through Smartsheet but it won't let me. How can I get these copies to you?
Thanks,
Ashley
