Create a distinct code for each row
Hi! For each row in my sheet, I'm looking to add a formula that creates a distinct number based on the data in a barcode column.
It's almost the same idea as an auto-number row, but it also counts for duplicates. So if the data in the the barcode column is repeated, the number in my "helper" column is repeated also. I would like for the number to start in 0001 and then keep adding +1 as the rows are added. What I found in the community are more like count formulas, and none actually creating a sequential number. Here's a screenshot what I would like to see in the sheet:

I dunno man, you think about it and any formula to produce a sequential number is probably going to have to use COUNT right?
-
@BullandKhmer Yes, but the result I´m looking for isn't a count result, but more so an auto numeration of rows.
-
And you would want "0001" for EVERY row that contains "WBR-3999"

@Paul Newcome Yes! If the "WBR-xxxx" is repeated (appears in more than one row", the "0001" would also be repeated in the other row.

Will you be deleting or moving rows from this sheet?
