Metric Widget Format Changes When Data Source Changes

Is there any way to have the format for a Metric Widget to not change when the Data Source changes? I have a dashboard "Template" created but when I change the data source it goes back to the default formatting.

No, there currently isn't a way to retain previous custom formatting on a Metric Widget when a new source is used.
