When a cell value changes, capture the contact name of who modified the cell value. This would be much similar to the record a date when cell value changes automation.

Hi @Joe_AM
Can you clarify how this would be different from the Modified By system column? Do you mean a static value based on only one cell change, versus any change in the row?
I hope you're well and safe!
Here's a possible workaround or workarounds
Please have a look at my post below with a method I developed.

Would that work/help?

I echoe @Joe_AM 's need. I have a sheet that serves as a Strategic Plan base in which weekly status updates are to be provided by the manager. I had hoped to use the Modified by and Modified system fields to capture the date and time in which the Project Update was provided and then copy the row to a log that would store all the historical updates. I created a Submitted checkbox to serve as the trigger. Unfortunately, since the automation is the last action performed on the row, it captures automation@smartsheet.com instead of retaining the current user who modified the row prior to triggering the automation.
I have the same need. I have a cell in this case a drop down, that represent whether a sptep was approved, and I want to capature th person that appoved. I was thinking of an automation similar to Record a Date that caputere the current date, it would capture the current person that is modifying the specific cell.
Another approuch could be a last modified by function that takes as input the cell and get the contact of t he person that last changed the cell.
It is really annoying for the "Modified By" captured smartsheet cell-link@smartsheet.com or automation@smartsheet.com. It doesn't really help to identify who is the real person that modified the record.
It would be great to see this option available since we use employee numbers for our email addresses. Since the content lives in the employee profile in Smartsheet, it seems like it should be available in a formula or some other way to capture.
The "browse" button was recently changed to go through a recent workspaces menu and requiring a second click on "browse all" before actually bringing up the browse menu sidebar. This change is unintuitive as there is a "recents" button right below the browse button and for anyone who regularly uses more than 6 workspaces…
I had Technical Support Case #09045069 in relation to this issue. I was told to get the API documents corrected, I needed to post to here. Update API Documentation Some (all?) of the API calls related to Alternate Email Addresses require both an Enterprise Account and to be manually activated by Smartsheet Support. The API…
I need to be able to backup all workspaces at once. Backing up each workspace one by one is tedious and a waste of time. I know someone is going to tell me "even system admins cannot backup workspaces they are not shared to, and can only backup workspaces they own or are shared with." So, let me do that. At least let me…
