How to use filter to hide and unhide columns

Hi,

Is it possible to use filter to hide and unhide columns. For example, I created a Smartsheet that is collaborative of 3 departments and each department has 3-4 columns.

I want to be able to see columns as a whole and as department specific by the click of the filter. Is this possible?

It is not possible to show or hide columns based on a filter. You will need to create a report for each department that only shows the columns you want them to see.

That is unfortunate. A report will not work for this function. Thanks for the reply Paul.

In this example let's say we have three departments. These departments often need to access each other's work and occasionally fill in for each other. While we have 30 columns of data, only 10 are relevant to each department. It would greatly improve efficiency if we could create a simple toggle filter to hide or reveal specific columns (e.g., columns A, B, C) as needed. This would allow each department to focus on their 10 relevant columns but easily access all 30 when required.

I would vote for this an an improvement. Very necessary in my day to day work.

I would vote for this…. this is a pretty common tool in most spreadsheet applications in 2024.
