Minimum level of access for an assigned to to update task % complete & status

Hello - What's the minimum level of access to grant for an assigned to to update just task % complete & status? Do not want them having access to change anything else in the project plan.

Editor access, but you can lock columns. Update requests can also be sent and means that users do not have any access at all to the sheet.
