Is it possible to filter all tasks based on their ancestry?

For example: I want to filter all these tasks, child and parent. I can add a helper column, but concerned about new rows being added since we have several people working on the Smartsheet

You are going to need the helper column, but depending on the breakdown, you can use a column formula in the helper column to account for any new rows added.
