Calendar View - Activity log/visits
We are using the Calendar view in Smartsheet to share upcoming trainings with your customers and we want to track the activity or number of visits to this Calendar view. Does Smartheet include built-in analytics for tracking the activity or number of visits to a specific view?

Hi @Lux28
I hope you're well and safe!
Unfortunately, as far as I know, it's not possible now, but it's an excellent idea!
I hope that helps!
Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

Hey @Lux28
If you're on a Business or Enterprise plan, you can use the Activity Log in the sheet to filter by Views. Here's more information: Track changes with the activity log
Is this what you were looking to do?
Cheers,
Genevieve

Hi Genevive, I am actually on a Enterprise Plan.
I have seen this option you mention in sheets, but not in Calendar App (look like this one https://www.smartsheet.com/marketplace/premium-apps/calendar-app) shared with customers outside our organization with training details. What we want is not to get info on the sheet that feeds the Calendar, but rather, on who visits the calendar as a measure of engagement. Hope I am more clear and fingers crossed there is actually a built-in option.

Hey @Lux28
My apologies, yes I was meaning the Calendar View in Sheets that have the Activity Log option versus the Calendar App. Thank you for clarifying!
The Calendar App does not have a built in Activity log, you're correct. I'll update the Product Idea you shared to clarify this for the Product team, thank you for submitting your enhancement request.
If your Calendar is built off of an underlying sheet, then you can actually still use the Sheet's Activity Log to see if it's being opened or not.
In this log you can see that it registers The Owner as viewing the sheet when it is viewed from the Calendar App, but identifies that this is through "API - Other Client". It's not perfect, as the API makes multiple calls to the sheet within one session which is registered as multiples "views", but it will at least show you if others are accessing the App or not.
All of these views will be registered under the Calendar App Owner's name, since that's the "API" that's looking at the sheet (the owner that set up the Calendar App configuration).
I hope that helps,
Genevieve

Thanks Genevive! This is a great start. Just one question: to get a proxy for number of views, is there a magic number I can divide by? You mention that API makes multiple calls to the sheet within one session which is registered as multiples "views". It would be great to understand how many calls on average does the API register per view/session?

Hey @Lux28
I don't know if there's a direct number to divide by. In my testing it looks to be around 3 per load / action (eg. an edit of a Task) but that's not a guarantee.
Another alternative to tracking Views would be to embed the Calendar on a Dashboard, then use the Dashboard Activity log instead, if that would be easier.
Cheers,
Genevieve
