New create date when rows moved from one sheet to another

Can anyone explain why the system created date updates when a row is moved from one sheet to another? I know it is probably the system settings, but if you move items to other sheets you lose the initial created date and that historicity of the object row.

Say you create the initial row 12/1/2023 and using automaton or manually move that row to another sheet on 12/8/2023, then the row has a create date of 12/8/2023 when it should retain the 12/1/2023 date as the original created date.

You can add a workflow to add the created date to another column so it will always be stored.

That would work. But some of our sheets are large enough that we hit the data limitations within Smartsheet for size.

Ok. Then, you should explore maybe consolidating the data in some way.

Is it the number of rows or the number of columns that are large?
