  • Hello Smartsheet,

My most requested changes would be:

    • Dynamic Drop-down lists
    • Form like formatting for update requests
    • A Random number function
    • Save filters with Sorting.
    • Publish sheet views with Filter and sorting applied.
    • Calculate formulas in Forms
    • More chart types and flexibility assigning data on existing charts
    • Cells that can have data entered or a formula.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi

A way to natively link things together would be useful. For example, there may be a sheet with a form to capture safety issues. It would be great to be able to create an action sheet that links the safety issue with the action(s) taken.

  • Second the dynamic dropdown lists. I have 7 or 8 sheets with the same 3 dropdown lists, and would like to keep a master sheet of the values and update just that sheet when there are changes.

  • A way to limit the value in a field or on a form to a fixed number of characters. We have several fields that go into other databases, and having the data be too big just causes errors in the transfer. We run an automation to find the cells that are too large before transfer, but it would be much better to have the user entering the data determine what 20 characters they don't need.

  • I would like to see things to be added as follows:
    *Network Diagram option
*Fixed constraint dates (this is a big one): the dates that the tasks must be done by, set in stone and can not be moved back and forwards by adding a task or changing a timeline at least without a notification by the app.

Below are critical opportunities from an audit and end user adoption perspective.

    Activity Log
Should have other filtering option capabilities. Right now, I can only designate Collaborators.

    API
Need get_rows() capability to create more complex Python API scraping which scales the value of existing API capabilities.

    Microsoft Power Automate
No option for "When a row is changed", "Copy Row", "Move Row", "Get Activity Log", "Get Sheet Column Formulas", "Get Row Formulas", "Get Column Formulas", "Get Sheet Summary Metrics", "Get Sheet Summary Formulas", etc.

    Data Integration Sources
Cannot integrate enriched, merged multi-system data from SQL. MySQL, SFTP, etc. Forced to create and maintain PY scripts manually to pull data in via Data Shuttle.

    Pivot App
Should have filter capabilities and not be forced to select a measurable field.

    Media Hosting
Smartsheet direct hosting of media content for those that do not have corporate (e.g., Vimeo, YouTube) accounts. No 3rd party (e.g., YouTube).

    Hello @Phil AP ,

If you have access to Data Shuttle, then the below has been the most audit friendly format. I only have access to OneDrive and SharePoint.

Make sure to share Data Shuttles with backup coverage and train them so you can take time off. 🙂

Simple Design - Low Audit Friendliness
    1) Create SharePoint XLSX where the column header matches Targeted 7 or 8 Smartsheets drop-down Columns.
    - Row entries are dynamic drop-down values for respective Columns.
    - We have had issues with CSV integration which is why we prefer XLSX.
    2) Create a Smartsheet.
    - Highly recommend maintaining XLSX Column format/naming convention for intuitive mapping.
    3) Inbound Data Shuttle of SharePoint XLSX to newly created Smartsheet.
    - Activity Log only allows for searching Collaborators and no other Column nor text designation.
    - API does not tap into Activity Log.
    - API cell history requires parameters which are not easily attainable due to missing get_rows() functionality.
    4) Data Shuttle Offload Smartsheet as XLSX on Targeted 7 or 8 Smartsheets.
    - Since Data Shuttle is a 1:1 ratio, then you will have to create 1 for each of the Target 7 or 8 Smartsheets.
    5) Data Shuttle Upload the XLSX attachment to update Column drop-downs on Targeted 7 or 8 Smartsheets.
    - Since Data Shuttle is a 1:1 ratio, then you will have to create 1 for each of the Target 7 or 8 Smartsheets.

    2) Create a DataTable to map the SharePoint XLSX. - Highly recommend maintaining Column format/naming convention for intuitive mapping.
    3) Inbound Data Shuttle of SharePoint XLSX to newly created DataTable.
    - Generates unique DataTable RecordID per SharePoint XLSX changes.
    - DataTable has friendly filtering for quick data views.
    4) DataTable connection to a Smartsheet.
    - Highly recommend maintaining Column format/naming convention for intuitive mapping.
    - Supplements Activity Log search capability pitfalls.

  • The basic user experience is inherently bad. Information is posted into a text box that becomes locked / read only. This text box often has important information that needs to be copied and paste else where. Your software does not allow this. The right click context "copy" button is active but does nothing. The user cannot select section of the text at all. Any attempt will popup a dialog that says "This cell is a locked column and can only be edited by the sheet owner and admins. For more information, see the help topic."

    1. Text box should allow a user to select and copy parts of the text.
    2. Locked column should only prevent changing information.

Your work around is junk too.

    1. Right click and press "View Cell History …"
    2. Dialog box opens to be able to copy parts and sections of text.

That dialog text box widget should be the default widget for the "Locked" column.

I find your basic user experience lacking and don't think you company actually uses.

If SmartSheets is about sharing and communicating, it lacks the basic ability to share with quick ease.
