How to prevent Smartsheet API from converting certain strings to integers

  • I also submitted a ticket. Leading zeros are being removed. Values such as 0123 appear as 123 in Smartsheet. The column type is Text/Number. Leading zeros in my sheet were preserved on Feb 2, 2024 but during testing on Feb 7 2024, I saw that leading zeros were being dropped.

  • I received a message from the Smartsheet Support team this afternoon indicating this issue has been resolved, but unfortunately, we are still experiencing the issue.

    We've noticed this as well.

In addition, today I had a sheet change where an API call to add a row with a column value of 0, is now instead being reported as `0. This is causing an issue with the display value of the column, which normally would show $0, but is now showing 0.

Looking at our activity log, it was fine around 11PM CST (reporting $0 adds), then switched to this behavior by 1PM (reporting 0 adds).

  • Hi all,

I too received the message that it has been resolved and so far so good on our end. Not sure why it is still affecting some users and not others.

Smartsheet Support also notified me on Feb 12, 2024 that this had been corrected. Leading zeros are no longer being dropped.

Specifically, the problem was a Power Automate flow that was inserting data to Smartsheet. The flow showed a value such as 0123 but the value appeared in Smartsheet as 123 in a Text/Number column type. I assume the Smartsheet API is being called between Power Automate and Smartsheet. Thankfully this has been corrected by Smartsheet and 0123 is now appearing.

Maybe the change will take some time to replicate to the others that are still having issues.

Our issue was resolved on the 16th, but seems to be back again. Has anyone else started seeing similar behaviors as a week ago?
