Permission to change one column in a report

Smartsheet newbie here -
I am trying to configure a field in a report so that the user (editor - cannot share access) can notify us when they are completed with their work on the report. It is set up that when they change the status in that column (on a specific row), automation will send an email to me. The problem is in reports, the access level I have to use only allows them to comment or attach documents. I have to use a report, versus a sheet, because I need to lock and hide fields. Smartsheet support says there is no way to modify/change a specific column but someone in the community might have an alternative.
Has anyone got a workaround for this?
This is the last thing I have to figure out before we are ready for go live - thanks!

Hi @mikal
I hope you're well and safe!
Unfortunately, as far as I know, it's not possible now, but it's an excellentΒ idea!
Here's a possible workaround or workarounds
- Premium app, Dynamic View
- Premium App, WorkApp
- Workflow that triggers if they write something specific in a comment
Would any of those options work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe, and have a fantastic weekend!

Thanks for the feedback. We don't have premium views but have used a workaround where by they have to put a comment in that will notify us they are complete. I will add this as a suggestion as well (the support desk told me that as well).
