Row Shading formula - how to make it work?

I tried to apply the row shading formula to my sheet but it didn't work. Do I have to enter the ISEVEN/MATCH formula to each row? every other row? on the sample exhibit, it only shows the formula on the third row which I copied. Do I have to manually check every other box? Should I convert the shading column to formula so I don't have to manually check? How does it work? The screenshot below shows where I checked the boxes manually. the conditional formatting works, I just want to know how to automate this.
