One of my favorite courses I've taken in adulthood was Tableau Training Pass. I loved that the instructor-lead classes were virtual, making it accessible and engaging. Unlocking data visualization skills made me feel so capable and proud.

Hi! My name is Nancy Benter, pronouns are she/her, and I'm a Strategy Leader at Starbucks. One of my most memorable training experiences was with Right To Be, an organization focused on global, people-powered movement to end harassment. To further invest in my leadership, I participated in their Bystander Intervention training. What stood out to me was every 2-4 minutes, there was a live knowledge check to assess your understanding of the bystander scenarios. The facilitator also did an incredible job with storytelling and sharing examples from her lived experience. At the very end of the training, we were left with actionable recommendations in a digestible activity guide so we could carry forward our learnings.

I loved my high school chemistry class. It was great because we got to work with lots of equipment and do interesting experiments. My teacher was wonderful, very patient and encouraging.

My favourite course that I recently took was a coaching course for teaching beginner rowers how to row. The reason I found this course so great was that it was challenging and very interactive. When it comes to my favorite courses, my journey into Nutrition Science and Exercise Science stands out as an unforgettable experience that has truly shaped my professional path. While it may not have been a traditional classroom setting, delving into the intricacies of muscle anatomy and the science of dietetics has been nothing short of transformative.

Understanding the mechanics of the human body, particularly the intricate interplay between muscles and nutrition, has not only deepened my knowledge but also empowered me to make a tangible impact on the lives of others. Over the past 15 months, I've had the privilege of applying this knowledge to help transform the lives of nine individuals, guiding them towards healthier lifestyles and achieving their fitness goals.

What made this journey truly exceptional was the hands-on approach to learning. By immersing myself in practical applications, from meal planning to personalized exercise regimens, I was able to bridge the gap between theory and real-world results. Witnessing the progress and successes of those I've had the honor to coach has been the ultimate validation of the effectiveness of this educational journey.

By sharing insights and lessons learned, I've been able to inspire others to embark on their wellness journeys, creating a ripple effect of positive change within my community.

I am an Excel geek, which made my cross-over to Smartsheet so much fun, and easy. I have multiple favorites! I am a premium LinkedIn member, and with that comes free courses, so I take advantage. I have taken most of those available by Oz du Soleil, as he is a great teacher. He, like everyone, has his own style, and he makes it very easy to learn. I follow Oz on LinkedIn and YouTube. The other is Kat Norton (aka: Miss Excel). She is so spunky and her energy is contagious. After seeing her webinar a few times (budget was tight), I finally splurged and bought her course (as a contractor, my company doesn't reimburse me). Kat is very engaging, and her teaching style is unique, so you find yourself easily learning. Plus I started to follow Kat on LinkedIn and TikTok.

Probably my favorite course has been the Advanced Lifesaving/Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor course I took during college. Always loved the water and thought myself a strong swimmer, but having the knowledge and skills to know how to actually help a person in distress in the water and perhaps save a life is good stuff.

My favorite class I've probably taken is from my childhood - it was part of an art camp where I learned wheel throwing, screen printing, photography(including processing film in a dark room), and more. It was really wonderful to get to explore my more creative side and the teachers and other students were super wonderful and supportive 😊

Many moons ago, my mum taught secretarial skills. On one occasion, she had just one student signed-up for her full-day managing meetings class, which included a role play element. Fourteen-year-old me was granted a day off school to role play being a secretarial student role playing a meeting attendee. I have great memories of seeing my mum work (even if i did have trouble calling her by her name) and as irrelevant as it felt at the time, I think I might actually use some of the skills she taught me on that course.

My favorite course I have taken was a sign language course in college. I took multiple years, but one year was memorable because the instructor was deaf. My previous instructors had been hearing, and were interpreters. This course was one of true immersion. I learned so much that year, not only improving my signing ability, and challenging me, but also increasing my awareness of the abilities of others and different cultures and how I interact with others. Definitely an eye-opening and enriching experience.

This was an easy ask. Years ago when my three children were in school, they had to prepare speeches and present in front of their peers. I found a class that all 4 of us can take to help us daily. The class was on memory performance. It taught how to remember the names of people we just met, how to give a speech using the ordinary items in a room as prompts and how to teach others to not forget our name. I still use the techniques today when speaking in front of people and for each new person I meet. Even my children still use these techniques. It is amazing when you meet someone new and use their name. It surprises most people that you have this incredible skill. It was an incredible experience taking a class with my three children who have grown into adults. (a double win for me)

My favorite course was called "Lamb Watch" in college. We had a bunch of pregnant ewes and when they went into labor they called us to come from our dorms and help out. Then we raised the lambs until it was time to sell them. It was a fresh of breath air from all the book/computer work and a fun hands-on class!

SQL Server certification! I completed this in 2007 and still use this skills today! For example, querying a data warehouse that holds disparate data and using data shuttle to import it into a data table! The possibilities for data driven decisions!!
