How do we change the Owner of a Sheet?

Hi @jboone003
I hope you're well and safe!
If you open the share menu and click on your row, you can request to become the owner.
Did that work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe, and have a fantastic week!
Best,

@Andrée Starå,
Thank you for your quick response! Unfortunately, we're having some strange permissions issues after the upgrade.
I tried to ask the Owner to make me the Owner, but it wouldn't allow that either
I'm trying to invite a user who was an Admin under the Pro Plan, but it won't let me (see screenshot).
I have a ticket into Smartsheet support...hopefully they respond quickly like you did!
Thanks again,
Justin

Happy to help!
The issue probably has to do with the fact that the Pro plan is involved, and I think it's limiting the transfer, so the best bet is probably to wait for support to get back to you.

Hi @jboone003
In order to receive ownership of a sheet, you'll need to first have at least Admin permissions on the sheet (versus Editor). If the item is in a workspace, you will also need Admin access to the Workspace.
Can you please have the owner first upgrade your permission type, then try the transfer again? Here's more information: Change Owner permissions of a sheet, report, or dashboard
Cheers!
Genevieve

You're both correct. I'm working with support now on both. Really appreciate the help as I'm brand new to Smartsheet...

I am the owner of a workspace and of included documents that I would like to transfer ownership of to other workspace members, but I do not see a "make owner" option under my share settings?
-
Hi @Jhcarper
Giving these users Admin permissions should give them the ability to take action on the items like they're the "owner". Will that be enough for you?

Thanks for your response. They already have the ability to update on actions, but for transparency (as we just reassigned a few projects) we would like to re-assign ownership as we have that rolling up in a weekly report. The article I read indicated that this was possible, but the command button the article showed does not exist in my version.

Hi @Jhcarper
I understand! One thing to keep in mind is that "Ownership" will be eventually going away since sheets are now owned by a plan not an individual person. Here's more information:
However if you do need to change ownership, you'll first need to ensure that the user accepting ownership is at minimum an Admin on the sheet already AND Admin access on the Workspace. Then you should see the option in the drop-down 🙂
Let us know if that helped!
