Your editing ability will depend on your Sharing Permissions on the Smartsheet item as well as the Owner of the item's plan type.

It sounds like the owner of the sheet may have a Pro Plan account, which means that you would need to be licensed on that same plan in order to be an editor on your laptop. Here's more information: Dashboard widgets and sharing in the Pro plan
