Rows moving to the bottom of a sheet on its own

Hi,

I've been noticing this for about 6 months now, every now and then on one of my sheets, at least 20 rows that were close to the top of the sheet randomly move to the bottom of the sheet. Haven't lost any data (thankfully) when this happens and I have to drag it back to the top.

Is this a glitch and how can I stop this from happening?

    Hi,

I hope you're well and safe!

It sounds like someone is sorting the sheet. Have you checked the Activity Log for clues?

    Did that work/help?

    I hope that helps!

Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

Next time it happens I will have to consult the log, but it shows me moving the rows back, and it shows a users name moving it, but this has been an ongoing problem that shows different users moving them even though no one is doing it. It isn't like a few rows that someone would want to move either, if it was I wouldn't be questioning this as a glitch.

    Ok.

When it happens again, I recommend contacting support.

If you haven’t already, I recommend submitting a support ticket through the new Smartsheet Support Portal.

It has happened again just now. I will lodge a ticket, looking at the activity log it has rows reordered under my name yet I did no such thing, it happened after I changed a dropdown option which uses a different conditional formatting.

No, this was the response, but I don't think it helped. I am speaking to our SS contact for further information.

Maybe the answer will help you?

Thanks for providing the sheet ID. I have reviewed the sheet with the
team, and am able to confirm that a large portion of the reorder
actions we are seeing are related to merge saves.

A "Merge Save" can cause data to be reorganized or potentially
overwritten (not deleted however). Every time a sheet is saved, a new
version of the sheet is saved to the server. For example, when a new
sheet is created, the sheet is loaded in version zero, and the first
time it's saved, version one is saved to the server. The merge saves you
are seeing occur when someone loads and edits one version of the sheet,
during which time other people load, edit, and save multiple new
versions of the sheet. For example, if two people load version 50, and
Person A makes changes and saves the sheet 10 times, then Person A will
be working on version 60 while Person B is still editing version 50.
When Person B saves their changes, Smartsheet will try to merge their
changes with all of the changes that occurred between version 50 and 60,
    causing a merge-save in version 61.

When multiple users are working on the same sheet, you may see the following:

    • *User Profile Pictures* - will show up next to the the blue
share button to tell you that others are on the sheet. You can click on
this icon to see who is on the sheet.
    • *Popups* - will briefly
display at the top, center of Smartsheet when you open an in-use sheet,
when other collaborators open the sheet you're on, and when other
collaborators close the sheet. Pop-ups will also be displayed briefly
when other collaborators have saved changes to a sheet.
    • *A Grey Refresh Icon* - will come up next to the sheet name when someone has saved a change to a sheet.

To minimize merge save incidents, note the following best practices:

    • Be aware of the multi-user icons when there are multiple collaborators editing a sheet at once.
    • Communicate
with collaborators and use the Highlight Changes feature to identify
what changes are made to the sheet on each new version (
    • Save frequently to prevent version jumps.
    • When prompted by the popup, save and refresh your sheet to minimize version jumps.
    • When
you see a grey refresh icon to indicate a change has been saved, you
should Save your changes then click on the refresh icon and select the
refresh link. Upon refreshing, you should be able to see the changes you
just made and any changes others have saved. If you've both made
changes to the same cell, the last saved change will be viewable in the
cell (while others are viewable in cell history). The first change made
will be viewable by right-clicking on the cell and selecting View
History. As a best practice, when working on a sheet at the same time as
another user, save frequently, and refresh the sheet when prompted.
