How can I have assign and allocate a user to a task and let the user subdivide the task

How can I have assign and allocate a user to a task and let the user subdivide the task into tasks that are not allocated to a person. The purpose is to use resource management on the parent row, but avoid the smaller tasks to drive the parent task. Basically: input on the parent level, checklist on the children level. However some time a single row allocation ( meaning no children) must also be possible.

Can you provide a screenshot of your sheet (with sensitive data hidden)? Also, your user will have edit access to the sheet, correct?

Sample entry displayed below. Need to have a single allocation for one person, but let the person divide the large task into smaller subtasks. The user has edit-access to the sheet. In this case an Advanced manufacturing engineer.
When using indentation, the dates at the parent line will be governed by the subtasks ( which really don't have dates, allocation, duration or anything). Once set up like this, some of the fields of the parent line become driven and it all becomes a work-around, which is a pitty when you buy a project management tool. The subtask-functionality is available in Resource Management, but there is no good way to mirror this in Smartsheet.

    Column order displayed is

    Tasks description
    Assigned To
    Allocation
    Start Date
    Duration
    End Date
    Completion %
    Effort
