Time Tracking
I thought I would share my take on tracking time in smartsheet. Use the checkbox and save features to test the formulas out and see how they work.

Of course this would be useless were the current time and not just date to be able to be used, but that would require a lot of power from the program, so I don't believe something like that will be implemented anytime soon.

I'll be back on tomorrow if anyone has any questions. To test the sheet simply check or uncheck a box and save the sheet. The time on the right will change to the time between creation and modified. It is separated out into Days Hours Minutes.

Neat solution. However, in my instances, usually, the creation date differs from the actual time of the start of the task... so the task couldn't be created in smartsheet until you started it if you wanted actual duration. If I assign a task, it may not be acted on right away.

Interesting solution that obviously works for you Luke and we can add that to our range of time sheet solutions, most of which are in Smartsheet alone and some that need to provide facilities not possible in Smartsheet, such as one task completed by several people over several days, which we do using Appsheet with Excel, then sync the totals in Smartsheet.
Bring on more great ideas! We all love solutions that make life easier.

I wish that I had been able to make it 3 columns instead of 5, but I kept running into the formula size limit.
Mr. Mike there are a couple of solutions to that, but most would involve editing 1 of the formula. That said the created column could be made into a text/number and manually input, and you could get your start time off of that easily.
With this as the base we can track machines being down, duration and cause. We can track how long safety issues are recognized but still continue, and we can track small tasks down to the minute. When it is complete, the row can be locked to prevent any change in the time very easily.

Love it. Great solution.
