I have the problem that on the trial version its not possible to click in the middle of the sheet and pull the gantt chart wider. Is this a trial thing or is it just not possible to do it on a Mac OS while using Firefox or Safari?

We don't impose limitations like this in trial accounts. I'm on a Mac and am not experiencing this issue in any browser. I'm wondering if you get the same issue in Chrome?
If it doesn't, you might have a browser extension that is installed on Firefox and Safari that's interfering with Smartsheet. Disable all of your browser extensions and see if the issue is fixed. You can then enable them one by one to find the culprit.
Otherwise, see if your mouse or keyboard is causing interference with Smartsheet by temporarily using different equipment. (Logitech has known to cause interference with Smartsheet specifically.)
If the above doesn't fix your issue, then contact our Support team to troubleshoot further.
