Restricting views in Dynamic View by user
Answers

My objective is to have a dynamic view that only displays rejected requests for the current user. So my dynamic view is setup for:
Restrict view by current user: Created By
I have created a filter where the Request Status = Rejected. The filter is defined within that dynamic view and is shared. Yet I still cannot configure a dynamic view restricted to current user AND restricted by sheet filter. I have literally waited days after creating the filter and still cannot make this work. I still see "No filter - all rows visible to everyone shared".
Is this a product limitation? If so, the whole goal of using Dynamic View is not unachievable. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

HI @MandyM , the Dynamic View "current user" filter only uses the "Contact list" column type columns. Since the automated "Created By" column is not a Contact List column type, it doesn't show up as a way to filter to the current user. The way we get around this is by forcing people to enter their own email/contact into a Contact Type field when they are filling out forms/requests. Then we can use that field to use the Current User filter you want to use.

Hi @Courtney S. , Oddly enough, the "Restrict by current user" using the Created By column is working for me. However, what is not working is adding a shared filter. Under "Restrict view by sheet filter", there are no filters listed.
The filters were created a shared last week. I mention this because I've read a few other posts that said to wait a while for the filters to show up. I've even tried not restricting view by current user in case they could not be used in combination, but still do not see my filters under the sheet filter drop down. Suggestions?

@MandyM this might be a silly question, but does your source sheet have filters that you are trying to see in the dynamic view "restrict view by sheet filter" drop down?

I would suggest creating a shared filter in the source sheet that combines the two requirements. Then you can select that shared sheet filter when creating the Dynamic View.

@Cathy Betzer EPIC. Thank you! I'd created a shared filter on the dynamic view and that is what was not working. Creating and sharing the filter on the underlying table was the trick. And it worked with the "filter by current user" setting on the DV. This made my week lol!

@Paul Newcome Creating and sharing the filter on the underlying sheet was the secret sauce! I was creating and sharing the filter on the dynamic view. Thank you for solving this mystery!
