Best practice to track client numbering system & client contacts?

I am building a process to automatically generate unique project codes based on "client #-sub client #- year - project #". Should I have a separate sheet just to store the client and subclient numbers? And then store the client/subclient contacts (potentially multiple per client) in a separate sheet? If so, then would the data flow be:1. client intake form2. populates contact master list3. data gets sent to Client Numbering List?TIA!
