If I grant viewer permissions, does the viewer have to create an account in Smartsheet before being able to view?

    Yes, the viewer would still need at least a free Smartsheet account to login and view the asset. The only way around this would be to create a published asset, but this then allows ANYONE with the link to access your data, would is usually not a good thing.
