I can manually move a row from one smartsheet to another. However, when I try to automate through a workflow, I get the following error;

    How many cells do you have remaining on the target sheet? How many columns does your source sheet have? When you move manually, are you moving a single row at a time? When the automation is triggering, are you triggering it manually, or are you letting it trigger on its own? If you are letting it trigger on its own, are there multiple rows that it is triggering on at the same time?

  • How many cells do you have remaining on the target sheet? Utilizing 70 columns and 4,161 rows. When I apply a filter, it says I am using 4,161 of the 4,222 rows. Thought the Smartsheet limit was 20,000? How many columns does your source sheet have? Utilizing 71 columns. When you move manually, are you moving a single row at a time? Yes When the automation is triggering, are you triggering it manually, or are you letting it trigger on its own? Trigger on its own If you are letting it trigger on its own, are there multiple rows that it is triggering on at the same time? Yes, approximately 150 existing rows as we have not manually deleted for a while

    Thanks for looking at this

    Are there any hidden columns on the destination sheet?

  • Verified there are no hidden columns on the destination sheet

    You may want to try recreating the automation from scratch then. If it is still giving you the error, you may need to need to reach out to support.

  • I have already tried a new workflow so will head on over to support. Am I right on the number of allowable rows?

    Technically yes, but that isn't the only limitation to worry about. For basic sheet size limitations, you have 20,000 rows, 400 columns, or 500,000 cells. The key part there being OR.

    At 71 columns, a sheet can only have 7,042 rows. Much less than the 20,000 row limit, but another row would then exceed the 500,000 cells limit.

    To get the maximum 20,000 rows in a sheet, you would have to keep your column count to a maximum of 25.

    There are also other limitations that could impact the number of rows / columns / cells available, but based on your error message, I don't think they are the case. I could be mistaken though. Do you have any formulas on the destination sheet?
