Changes to Data Shuttle Replace Mode Workflows
Hi Community,
To improve sheet and Data Shuttle performance, we are changing how Data Shuttle “replace mode” upload workflows function.
Instead of completely deleting and replacing all rows on a sheet, replace mode workflows will now:
- Scan the source data until it detects a change in the data set.
- From that row onwards, Data Shuttle will perform a replacement of all data.
- If no change is detected between the source and target dataset, no rows will be processed.
- If a change is detected on row 1, the dataset will be replaced from row 1.
- If a change is detected in row 99 of 100, only rows 99 and 100 will be processed.
This change will reduce the number of rows impacted when a Data Shuttle workflow runs, while still giving you the same accuracy of results.
As a note, if the source sheet has been reordered since the last workflow run, all rows will be replaced. Replace mode workflows don’t consider row IDs; instead, they compare the source data and ensure a complete match with the target.
Additionally, this will impact the behavior of cell history as only the rows replaced will show as changed in the cell history, instead of all rows on the sheet, which could impact any sheet automations that run based on cell updates.

@Danielle Wilson Please let me know the impact to this scenario.
Smartsheet Grid A is a drop-down source.
Data Shuttle Offload Workflow transforms Smartsheet Grid A as an XLSX attachment as "Replace" to Smartsheet Grid B. Frequency is hourly.
Data Shuttle Upload Workflow ingests the XLSX attachment as "Update Dropdowns" in Smartsheet Grid B. Frequency is hourly.
It sounds like unless the Smartsheet Grid A rows have been reordered and/or information is changed, the Data Shuttle Offload Workflow will generate less revisions of the Smartsheet Grid A as an XLSX attachment to Smartsheet Grid B.

Hi @Erin Horiuchi Green! If I'm understanding correctly, you're talking about a situation where you're doing an offload from a sheet to generate an attachment, that then updates dropdowns on another sheet? If that's the case, there would be no change to your workflow / this release doesn't pertain to your situation.
This release really only pertains to people who are replacing data on sheets (not dropdowns) with upload workflows, and we still do not anticipate any impact to these users from a functionality standpoint.
