Sorting
Hi Smartsheet Community!
I have published sheets (roughly 500 sheets) and the end users are telling they no longer have the ability to sort a column. The end users do not have a license. In the past, they had this ability. Anyone explain what might be going on? Did Smartsheet make a change that I'm not remembering?
Thank you in advance!
Carol-Anne

Unfortunately, I think that would be the issue then. Here's the article that you can reference too (see 3rd bullet point):

At first, I suspected the user subscription model.
However, when I tested with my published sheet (read-only), I could not recreate the problem of not being able to sort rows. Published sheet user can sort rows.
That makes sense even in the new model, as read-only or viewer-access users can sort rows.
I assume when you say, "sort a column", you mean to sort rows of a column.

Hi
Thanks for the response but the sort option is grey-out. The user is able to edit the sheet but not able to sort. Below is a screenshot of what they are seeing. The sheets are published and are accessible to the end user via SharePoint. I doubt that has anything to do with it. Any other insight or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Has a filter been applied? I don't believe Smartsheet allows you to sort if any column is also filtered.

Hi @KPH
Great thought but there isn't a filter on the sheet.

Hope you don't mind me jumping in here too, @Carol-Anne Cerbone and @KPH, but have you screen shared with the user in question to confirm they haven't applied their own filter? If you can be certain that no filter has been applied, then my next thought is to ask if you have any rows locked on the sheet.

I have confirmed there aren't any filters but the first row is locked. I'm guessing that is what is preventing the end user from sorting?

Thank you for the information. I wasn't aware we couldn't sort when there is a locked row.
