Board View - no spaces in text appearing when adding new dropdown option?
We are using Board view to input data into a sheet. When a dropdown column with multiple options has 'Don't restrict to list values only' toggled on, and a user tries to add a new option, when they type the new text, spaces between the words do not appear (wordsrunintoeachother). This doesn't happen when in Grid view. Does anyone have any ideas on why or how to prevent? Thanks!

Have you wrapped text in the column?

All the columns in the sheet have wrapped text.

Hi @SusannahAmuri,
I’ve tested this on my end (in multiple browsers and in the desktop app), and I'm unable to reproduce the same behaviour. To make sure I’m fully understanding the issue, it sounds like you’re seeing the following:
- A sheet contains a dropdown list column
- The column is set so that “Restrict to list values only” is toggled OFF (so that users can enter new values)
- In Board View, a user attempts to add a new option but when doing so, the spaces from the new option are not included, so the words are running together as if they are one word
Is the user adding the new option by adding a new lane when Board View is grouped by the affected dropdown column, or are they adding the new option by editing one of the cards and typing the option into the field in the Details panel?
If possible, could you provide some screenshots (removing any sensitive data) showing what you’re seeing?
Thanks,
Georgie

Thanks Georgie. Yes, you are correct. The user is adding a new option via the Details panel (clicking on the three dots on the card, selecting 'edit details'). I've attached a screenshot of me attempting to add a new option to the column 'Irrigation T3 Evidence Against'.

Hi @SusannahAmuri,
Thanks for adding the screenshot and confirming what you’re seeing. That is strange behaviour. Are other users experiencing the same issue, and do you see it in other sheets and when accessing the sheet in a different browser? Sometimes, issues with a browser can cause strange behaviours like this - I’d recommend taking the troubleshooting steps in this help article: Issue: Smartsheet is continuously loading, not responding, or not displaying certain items.
If you still see the issue after taking the steps in the above help article, it would be best to create a Support ticket since this behaviour is unexpected, and they can investigate what’s happening in the particular sheet you’re seeing it in. Please provide the following information when opening the ticket:
- The screenshot you’ve provided here
- The ID of the affected sheet, if only one sheet is affected (open the sheet and click File > Properties to find the ID)
- Whether this is affecting multiple users or not
- Confirmation of all troubleshooting steps you’ve taken
Thanks,
Georgie

Thanks Georgie - yes, we have both internal and external users, and licensed and non-licensed experiencing this. I'll test it in some other browsers myself and then lodge a ticket as suggested if the issue is replicated.
