can't update report column

1: I am the owner of the underlying sheet and the report

2: i have a contact list column "executive sponsor" which has no dependencies nor is it formula driven

3: i view it and a subset of columns in a pre-filtered view as a report

4: i can update all the other columns VIA the report except for that one

Question - is one of the report filters based on that column? Not that it should change your ability to edit the column, just wondering.
