How do I get the % Complete column to accurately calculate the true value?

I have followed the recommendations to make sure I have:
- The start and end date entered
- Project configurations set to dependencies > % complete > start date & end date

I noticed that for a parent task, I have 12 child tasks in which 8 have reached 100% and the remaining 4 vary in percentages, however, the parent line shows a calculated total of 29%.
The math doesn't check out here.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to resolve this, I'd appreciate!

    hi @D_Pham,

But the calculations can be correct. If the 4 tasks that vary in % and they are not 100% if those are really long tasks comparing to those 8 tasks that are 100% complete the parent task can still be 29% .

Please just for test make those remaining 4 tasks 100% and if parent task still is 29% it could be problem.

    Hope it helps

@D_Pham To illustrate what @kowal is saying in the Smartsheet below I have 10 tasks all reporting to the same parent task. They have identical durations of 1day, which gives each of them 10% towards the contributed parent total, or 1 day out of 10 total days per task. So if 9 tasks are at 100% it totals 90% and my tenth task is 50% complete, contributing another 5% to my total percent complete. Bringing it to 95%:

If I change the duration of the last scheduled task to 11 days it brings the total duration of the parent column to 20 days. Now my first nine tasks listed count for 1day / 20 days, or 5% of the total duration. So nine tasks at 100% complete times 5% per day brings me to 45% complete for those tasks. And the remaining 55% of my complete percentage is accounted for the 11 days remaining at 5% each of the duration on task number 10:

Thank you both so much for the quick responses and guidance! I didn't know the duration impacts the percentages. My duration for each child task varies so the total is 84 days, which explains the lower calculation of 29%.

This was really helpful. Is there any way to change this besides updating the start/end dates?

    hi @D_Pham,

nope this is the logic and its also proper either you change the duration of the task to be shorter or the % complete to be higher to impact the parent task.
